Save the Dogs announces the closure of its U.S. office
A difficult but necessary step to focus our resources on our key activities in Romania and Italy.Save the Dogs has taken the difficult decision to close its U.S. office by the end of 2024. The American branch, which was established in 2022, was aimed at boosting donations, particularly to support our efforts in Ukraine. However, the reduction in funding for the Ukrainian emergency, resulting in the conclusion of related activities, together with an inability to sustain further investments in the U.S. branch, has led us to decide to refocus on the countries where our work is most impactful: Romania and Italy.
Thanks to the immense generosity of our American donors, we have been able to make a real commitment to helping animals in Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict, achieving significant results. From January to August 2024 alone, Save the Dogs performed 2,046 sterilizations, on top of the 3,441 conducted in 2023, totaling 5,487 procedures. Additionally, we distributed over 1,116 tons of food to to abandoned or needy animals living on the streets, in families, or in shelters.
Before closing the U.S. office, we would like to leave a small token of our gratitude for the incredible support we received. All remaining funds will be donated to Best Friends, an organization that has been helping animals in the U.S. for over four decades.
“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our U.S. donors for their wonderful support. Thanks to their contributions, we have been able to take meaningful action to protect animals in need, not only in Ukraine, but also in Romania and Italy. Despite the closure of our office, I hope they will continue to stand by us and support our mission moving forward.”
